ABOUT

Laura Harmon has spent all her adult life campaigning for equality in Ireland. She is a first-time candidate for the local elections and she is delighted to be selected to run on behalf of the Labour Party in the Cork City South West Ward. She is currently the Executive Director of the Irish Council for International Students and formerly the Leadership Coordinator with the National Women’s Council. She is a board member of Threshold, housing charity.

During the Repeal the 8th campaign in 2018, she was the National Head of Mobilisation at Together4Yes. Prior to that, Laura was the president of the USI leading the national student movement during the Marriage Equality Referendum which saw the mass mobilisation of the youth vote in 2015.

Born to a then single mother in 1980s rural Ireland and growing up gay has shaped Laura’s outlook on life and propelled her to campaign for equal rights in society.
